Oltre il Velo / Beyond the Veil is a joint installation by choreographer Valentina Moar, video artists Judith Selenko / Peter Venus and composer Bojan Vuletić.
Deep, hidden emotions become visible through the power of movement and the unusual artistic vision and form. The dancing body becomes the protagonist of a journey through the imaginary shapes it draws in space. Although the gesture of dance is fleeting and instantaneous, it is a trace in the air, it has a force that goes beyond its own movement, a geometry in constant transformation that challenges the laws of matter and perception.
The sound of the dance was captured in a concentrated field with many microphones and forms the basis for the musical composition, which was created parallel to the choreography.
The choreography follows the structure of the classical pas de deux as a silent and profound dialogue between two dancers that support each other both physically and psychologically. The speed and the
defiance of gravity of the male dancer meet the grace and form of the female dancer, creating the sense of absolute equilibrium.
The visual construction and deconstruction of the movement draws invisible lines, creating a dance of forms that expand, overlap and dissolve. The body is no longer just a physical structure, but a force that shapes the world.
Choreography, composition and visual art unite in an intimate presentation, immediate, powerful and touching.
Valentina Moar
The Italian choreographer, dancer and performer Valentina Moar creates works for dance, theater, film and exhibitions. She received her education at La Biennale di Venezia Dance Academy under the direction of Carolyn Carlson and at the Paolo Grassi School of Drama Arts Milano with Susanne Linke. She graduated MA Literature, Linguistics and Theatre Studies at Università Statale Milano.
Since 2012 Moar is present in the art scene of Graz - UNESCO city of Design and Cultural Capital of Europe 2003 - where she has been creating more than 20 dance pieces, 3 dance films and several performances in the cities most relevant artistic places and events.
As a choreographer she has been performing her works in different international festivals and theatres, in her projects she involves and collaborates with artists from all art forms, with a strong focus on visual art. As a dancer she has performed pieces of Benoît Lachambre (Délir defait,
International Dance Festival La Biennale di Venezia), Ismael Ivo, Avi Kaiser, Roberto Castello, Abbondanza/Bertoni, Darrel Toulon among others, and is a solo performer in two Hit-Single music videos and one concertfilm by Italian rock star Vasco Rossi.
Since 2001 she has been getting various engagements with different European companies, universities and institutions throughout Europe, including Opernhaus Zürich (CH), International Dance Exposure at Suzanne Dellal Centre Tel Aviv (IS), Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus (DE), Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics IEM Graz (AT), Conservatorio Tartini di Trieste (IT), University of Applied Sciences Kamp-Lintfort (DE), Attakalari Centre for Movement Art Bangalore (IN).
She is artistic director and foundress of the Dance On Screen FilmFestival, which is the first and only dance film festival in Austria. Since 2016 she presented over 360 dance films in Graz and in 2025 Dance On Screen will celebrate its 10th Edition.
