In renaissance Italy, on the streets and in the squares of towns, a new form of theatre was taking root, one which was destined to revolutionize the leisure time of the powerful and the common people alike. The Commedia dell’Arte drew its force from the physical energy of the actors and their multifaceted ability to act, sing and dance.
