Pina Bausch’s Le Sacre du Printemps was first presented by the Tanztheater Wuppertal in December 1975, as part of the three-part Stravinsky Evening (Strawinsky Abend), alongside
The Second Spring and Wind from West.
Over the past fifty years, this key work has remained a powerful presence on stages around the world. Now for the first time it will be staged at Teatro alla Scala with the dancers of Teatro alla Scala Ballet Company that for the very first time have entered style, language and process towards this production.
And as a process towards this event, featuring rare photographs from the archive of the Pina Bausch Foundation, this exhibition offers an intimate view of the work’s creation, revealing moments from rehearsals as well as traces of its choreographic language.
Dancer Tjistske Broersma, who took part in the creation in 1975, recalls:
„your shape in the space expands, you reach further, so that you´re lengthening this energy. And that’s also typical for Pina Bausch: the energy goes on...“
